Describing How Your Commercial Floor Will Be Used

Describe what happens on the floor during a normal business day before choosing a finish. Actual use gives the flooring discussion more useful information than a general label such as commercial or heavy duty.

    List Activities by Area

Break the space into the areas where different things happen. Note routine walking routes, stationary work, storage and movement of equipment or goods. A single room may contain several uses that deserve separate attention.

Describe frequency and type in ordinary terms if exact figures are not available. For example, explain that deliveries cross one entrance while most staff activity stays elsewhere.

    Include Cleaning and Exposure Questions

Share the cleaning routine and any materials that may contact the floor. Identify the actual products or substances when known rather than assuming all spills or cleaners are equivalent. Keep product labels or relevant operating information available for the assessment.

Ask how those conditions relate to the proposed floor system. Do not infer resistance from the words epoxy, concrete or industrial. Suitability needs to be discussed against the specific product, installation and intended use.

    Separate Must-Haves From Preferences

Name what the floor must support operationally and what you would prefer visually. A particular appearance may be flexible; a required access route may not be. Making that difference clear helps the project team explain the tradeoffs rather than guessing which priority leads.

Include foreseeable changes in use, but label them as planned or possible. An unconfirmed expansion should not be presented as current operating conditions. Revisit the floor decision if the actual use changes before the project is agreed.

Turn the Description Into Assessment Inputs

The useful output is a clear description of the work environment, not a product selection made without assessment. Provide the details to Ellett so the finish discussion starts with how the space functions.

    • Identify activities and routes by floor area.
    • Describe equipment movement and stored materials.
    • Share actual cleaning and exposure information.
    • Separate operational requirements from appearance preferences.

    Discuss Your Floor

Tell Ellett Epoxy where the project is, how the space is used and which questions you want to work through.
