# What a Concrete Preparation Scope Should Explain

A useful preparation scope connects the current floor to the intended finish. It should explain what is included, what remains uncertain and how unexpected conditions will be handled before the finish is installed.

## State the Starting Condition

Begin with the material and condition that can actually be observed. The floor may be bare concrete, previously coated or hidden by another covering. Identify known repairs, affected areas and any limits on the current assessment.

Avoid treating a photograph as a complete inspection. If the proposed process depends on exposing or evaluating the slab, show where that review sits in the project sequence. A clear starting description makes it easier to understand why preparation is needed.

## Connect Each Activity to the Finish Goal

Ask for a plain-language explanation of what the preparation is intended to accomplish for the proposed floor. Preparation for a coating and work toward exposed finished concrete are not interchangeable end goals.

The description should identify the included areas and relevant boundaries. It should also explain any work expected from the owner or another party. You do not need to select equipment or prescribe a method; you need to understand what the agreed preparation covers.

## Identify Exclusions and Decision Points

Review what is not included and which conditions could require a revised discussion. An existing covering, an uncertain repair or a concealed area may need further evaluation. These items should be visible before they affect the project.

Ask how new findings will be communicated and who approves a change. A good sequence allows the floor condition to be reviewed before assumptions become additional work. Keep the proposed finish, preparation and approval responsibilities connected.

## Compare Preparation on the Same Basis

When reading more than one proposal, compare the starting assumptions and included work, not only the final finish name. Two proposals can use similar language while describing different boundaries or responsibilities. Clarify the differences before judging which scope fits.
