Describe Observations Without Diagnosing Them
Tell the flooring team about recurring damp areas, past leaks, discoloration or a previous coating that lifted. Explain where and when you noticed each condition. If there are repair or building records, make those available for the assessment.
Avoid turning an observation into a conclusion. A dark patch in a photo is not proof of a particular cause, and a floor that looks dry at one moment does not answer every moisture question. Accurate history is more useful than a confident guess.
Connect Assessment to the Proposed System
Ask what information is needed to decide whether the proposed preparation and finish are appropriate for the slab. Different project conditions and specified products can lead to different requirements. The answer should relate to your actual floor and proposed system.
If testing or another assessment is recommended, clarify who performs it, what area it covers and how the findings will be used. Confirm any assessment requirements and what is included in the actual proposal.
Keep Unresolved Conditions Visible
A flooring proposal should not quietly assume away a known recurring issue. Ask whether any further evaluation or work by another party is needed before the floor decision can be finalized. Identify who will provide that information and where it will be recorded.
If the proposed scope changes after assessment, compare the revised preparation, finish and exclusions with the original discussion. Make sure the person approving the project understands why the direction changed rather than treating it as an unexplained addition.
Prepare a Useful Question List
You do not need to choose a testing method or diagnose the slab yourself. The practical goal is to make sure the moisture question is considered, the relevant history is shared and the proposed solution is supported by the right project information.
- Where have dampness or prior finish problems been observed?
- What assessment is needed for the proposed floor system?
- Who evaluates the findings and explains the next step?
- Which unresolved conditions must be addressed before work proceeds?
