Questions to Ask About Flooring Product Claims

Flooring phrases such as industrial strength or long lasting are not enough to choose a system. Ask how a claim relates to the specified product, the actual floor and the way the space will be used.

Translate the Claim Into a Real Question

Start with the practical need behind the claim. If resistance matters, identify what the floor may contact. If a return-to-use statement matters, explain the actual activity that must resume. A specific use question is easier to evaluate than a broad adjective.

Do the same for appearance and care. Terms such as low maintenance can leave out the instructions the owner still needs to follow. Ask what the phrase means in practical daily use for the system under discussion.

    Request Relevant Information

Ask for the product and project information that supports the proposed choice. Confirm that it applies to the actual system and intended use rather than to another product in the same category.

A product document is one input, not a complete project assessment. The existing surface, preparation and installation conditions still need consideration. Avoid lifting a number or statement from a document and treating it as a promise for every job.

    Read Conditions and Limits

Look for the conditions attached to timing, performance, care or warranty statements. Ask what the owner must do and what circumstances are excluded. Keep the answer with the project information so the decision is based on the full explanation.

When comparing proposals, use equivalent questions. A general marketing phrase from one source should not be compared with a detailed conditional statement from another as though they are the same kind of evidence.

    Choose a Defined Proposal

The goal is not to collect the strongest-sounding words. It is to understand why the proposed floor fits the intended use and what is needed for it to perform as expected. If an important claim remains unclear, resolve it before relying on it.

    • Name the actual use or exposure that matters.
    • Identify the specified system and relevant documentation.
    • Review conditions, owner duties and exclusions.
    • Keep confirmed answers with the approved scope.

    Discuss Your Floor

Tell Ellett Epoxy where the project is, how the space is used and which questions you want to work through.
