What to Ask for in Your New Floor Care Handoff

The floor handoff should give you enough information to use and care for the finished surface. Keep the finish details, current instructions and follow-up contact together before the project conversation closes.

    Know Which Floor You Have

Ask how the installed finish or system will be identified in the project record. Keep that information with the scope and the areas it covers. A property with several finishes needs a clear way to distinguish them.

Do not rely only on a color name or a photograph. Those can be useful references, but they do not provide the care information needed for a specific system. If the record contains product or finish documents, ask which instructions apply to each area.

    Collect Usable Care Instructions

Request the cleaning and handling guidance appropriate to the actual finish. Ask about approved products and tools, spills and anything that should be avoided. Make sure the person who will clean the floor can understand the instructions.

If the guidance refers to another document, keep that document with the handoff rather than saving only a message that says to follow it. The practical test is whether someone responsible for the space can find the answer when a routine question arises.

    Confirm Return to Use Separately

Review the instructions for walking, replacing furnishings, moving equipment or returning vehicles as applicable. These activities should follow the project-specific guidance, not a general expectation based on the floor looking finished.

If another contractor or mover will enter the area, pass along the relevant instructions before they arrive. Ask about any proposed protection material or handling method instead of improvising a solution after the work is complete.

    Make Follow-Up Easy

Save the appropriate contact for a later care question and the information to include when reaching out. A photo, area name and description of what happened can make a question more useful than a message saying only that something looks different.

    • Finish identification and affected areas.
    • Current cleaning and handling instructions.
    • Return-to-use guidance for planned activities.
    • Project record location and follow-up contact.

    Discuss Your Floor

Tell Ellett Epoxy where the project is, how the space is used and which questions you want to work through.
