    Plan Your Floor

Preparing for a Garage Floor Project

Make room for the work, plan how you will get around, and keep your project instructions close at hand.

Plan the Project in Three Steps

    • Before Scheduling

Confirm the surfaces and finish included.

    • Before Work Begins

Plan storage, parking and access with the team.

    • Before Moving Back In

Get instructions for walking, storage and vehicles.

    Confirm the Areas Included

Review which parts of the garage are included before work is scheduled. Ask about steps, edges, separate rooms and any other surfaces you want considered. Do not assume every adjacent surface is part of the same quote. A clear scope helps everyone plan around the same work. If you have not requested a quote yet, our garage floor quote checklist covers what to send first.

    Make a Storage Plan

Think about where tools, shelves, boxes and other belongings can stay while the floor is being worked on. Ask what needs to move and who will move it. If a large item is difficult to relocate, raise that early so it can be addressed in the project discussion.

    Give Everything a Temporary Home

Tools, shelves, boxes and vehicles need a plan while work is underway. Raise heavy items and access needs early so the team can help you prepare for your specific project.

    • Agree on what needs to move and who will move it.
    • Plan another entry if the garage is your usual way inside.
    • Keep the agreed scope and care instructions together.

    Plan Access and Parking

Discuss how the team will access the garage and where vehicles will be parked. Consider household routines, deliveries and any access needs that could affect the schedule. If the garage is a main entry to your home, mention that before work begins.

Share What You Know About the Floor

Tell the team about previous coatings, repairs or recurring concerns you have noticed. Photos can help introduce those topics, but the actual surface may need a closer assessment. Avoid preparing the floor with chemicals or attempting a repair without first discussing the plan.

Get Instructions for Returning to Use

Ask when you can walk on the floor, return stored items and park vehicles. Those answers should come from the system specified for your project and the conditions at installation. Follow the instructions you receive rather than a general timeline from another garage.

    Keep the Project Conversation Together

Save your scope, finish selection and care instructions somewhere you can find them. If your plans change, contact the team before moving back into the garage. Clear project details make it easier to ask the right question at the right time.
